Hi Guys

We had a hoot last time, and if you haven't done it yout this is a great chance to be shown it!
Below is the video of the last ride we did up there (ran out of memory before we did the Rameka part, so will film that part this time!

When? SUnday 25th of March 2012.

Who? Anyone who wants to come!

What WillYou Need? $25 Cash for Shuttle, Food, Bike, Appropriate Clothing

The ride itself will probably be as follows.
We will ride up to Wainui Saddle and around the first half of the loop to
the bottom of the big hill. Those that don't want to do the big hill can
turn off here and head back to the carpark via the Gold Creek Loop while the rest of us go over the hill and back to the carpark.
Once at the carpark, anyone who wants to can ride the Gold Creek Loop or
rest and have a break / lunch
at about 1:30 we will head down the Rameka and Project loops aiming to be in Takaka by around 3:30 - 4.00pm
As there will be different levels of fitness / skill we will probably split
into two groups of 8 to keep it cozy, or into whatever groups feel
comfortable.

DETAILS

Hi Guys

As you can appreciate, its sometimes a bit of a juggle getting this sort of ride together to suit everyone!
So, I have done my best and I hope this works for you all.
I have attached a couple of maps to help, so please read this all carefully.
I have also attached a Spreadsheet of eveyone coming, with numbers and addresses so you can make final arrangements between yourselves if you need to.

so it goes like this!

There are two shuttles one in the morning leaving Escape Adventures at 10.00am and the other leaving in the afternoon at about 4:30pm
The Morning crew need to be at Escape Adventures by 9:45 to load up first. The first shuttle will take us up to the saddle at the start of canaan Downs where the morning crew unload and ride the last couple of k's to Harwood Hole Carpark to meet up with the Afternoon crew.
So the morning crew are Steve, Bryan, David Bonnett, Ian, Dave Wallace, Kevin and his two mates Phil and Andrew.

The Afternoon Shuttle crew will need to leave Nelson around 9:15 and drive up to Canaan Downs and park up at the Harwood Hole Carpark by 11.00am
After the ride, they will get the afternoon shuttle back up to the Saddle and ride the last couple of k's back to their cars, and then home.
The Afternoon crew are Bert, Geoff, Paul, Craig, Gribby and Richard. there are two spare spaces at this stage.
The Driver Brian can be contacted on 03 525 8783 to arrange a change of time if needed

Once we are all at the Harwood Hole Carpark at 11.00am we will ride the Canaan loop (Takes about 1.5 hours) and be back at the carpark for a rest at 12:30-1.00
We will then leave at 1.00pm and ride the Rameka and the rest of the 6-pack tracks aiming to be back at Takaka by 3:30 -4.00pm
We will have a drink and debreif at the pub before heading off. Brian from Escape Adventures is pretty flexible, so if we are not out by 4:30 its not a problem.

During the ride, we will probably end up splitting up into a couple of packs, depending on skills, speed etc. I will follow up back to make sure everyone is ok, and we will have a couple of catch up points along the way in case of problems.

OK..Now for the Carpooling!

I suggest you ring your fellow carpoolers to confirm things!

Steve (Thats me!) is taking his car and taking Dave Bonnett and Bryan Cohen with him, We will be on the morning shuttle and have to leave earlier
David if you can be at my house by 8 we will then cruise through and pick Bryan up at 8:15 and be in Takaka at Escape Adventures at 9:45 to load the shuttle for a 10.00am departure.

Gribby is making his own way up the hill on his bike and will meet us at the carpark at 11.00am

Craig is taking his son to Kaiteriteri and then driving up the hill and parking at the Harwood Carpark to meet us at 11.00am

Dave Wallace , If you can pick up Ian at his house at 8 Washborne Drive around 8:15 giving you 1.5 hours to get to Takaka for 9:45 at Escape Adventures (Map Attached to show you where they are)

Geoff, if you can pick up Bert at his house 22 Bisley Avenue (entrance is at Champion Ter.) at about 9.00am and drive up to Harwood Hole arpark to meet us up there at 11.00am

Kevin, If you and your two buddies can arrange it to be in Takaka at Escape Adventures (Map attached) at 9:15 ready for the morning shuttle that will be great

Richard, If you can Pick up Paul at his place at 15 Norwitch Street Stoke at about 9.00am and the two of you make your way up to Canaan Downs and park at the Harwood Hole carpark to meet us there at 11.00am that will be great. if you need a bike rack let me know and I will arrange one for you. I think Paul has a double one, perhaps you can talk to him and arrange to use that one?

Ok.. Now.. What to take!

Canaan downs is semi-alpine and the weather can be quite changeable up there so.

Make sure you have the following.

A Waterproof Raincoat and spare thermal base layer in a plastic bag in you day pack.
Food - lots of snacky stuff, Bananas, Apples, Bread Rolls. Its a few hours and you will need to eat! Those that are parking at the carpark get the benefit of leaving your stuff in the car!
Water, There are no Safe water supplies up on Canaan Downs, but there are a couple of creeks on the Rameka you can fill up. Suggest you take a couple of litres. You can leave a bottle at the carpark if need be.
Tools and Spares for your bike, Don't rely on the others to have what you might need!

Clear as mud

Any problems with any of the above please let me know.
I will post this on the website as well

Cheers

Steve
