MTB-Buddies - Nelson/Tasman Cyclists

We are a group (not a club) of friends who like to ride bikes of all sorts - mountain, road, track and even unicycles. This site exists to 'share the wealth' - we want to:
  • let people know about the great tracks around Nelson, Tasman and beyond
  • encourage more riders to join us on these tracks, and
  • motivate everyone to help out with track building, maintenance and improvement.
If you are looking for information on the new Map Book by Steve Newport, more information is here
Please sign up for an account, show up for a ride or working bee, ask any questions and tell us what you think!

Chings Highway

Chings Highway is not worth attempting to ride at the moment
There are still several slips from the flooding, and a lot of growth from over summer.
Later this year it is our intention to regroom and fix this track up ready for next summer. If you would like to help with this send me a message
Cheers
Steve

Trail Saints Progress

The new R&R entry track is progressing well. After three sessions we have got to about the quarter way mark
This will be a great track once finished.
If you want to help, then come to the working bees which are on every fortnight, or send me a message at newport@ts.co.nz and we will add you to the list

Eddy's Possums

Eddy has now started his Winter Wind up of the local possum population
His demenour out on rides has changed from trotting in beside me, to being a couple of hundred yards ahead!
He is not quite as fast as he has been in the past now that he is almost 8, but he has already had a few in the last couple of weeks.
Current count is 168

Nelson / Tasman MTB Track Book

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The Nelson / Tasman MTB Track Book has been a huge success, and it is obvious that the information in it has been needed for some time.
The forst run of 150 was gone in two days, the second run of 150 gone a day later, so Supply is not able to keep up with demand!
A third run of 150 has been initiated to try and keep up.
For those wanting a book, most of the bike shops are holdiong a "Shop Copy" for people to look at and order against, so at this stage the best thing you can do is head to your local bike shop and put your name down for one.

Road Riding Etiquette

This was about people on the Moutere Highway, but I see it as applicable to any road cyclists, so I am posting it here for other roadies. The email came from Krista Hobday, the TDC road safety coordinator, who is a supporter of cyclists in the region
